Semantic opacity and discontinuity of archaeological information
Opacité sémantique et discontinuité de l’information archéologique
Résumé
By taking the example of the megalithic cairn of Barnenez, we can show how the reference to universal models allows us, not to cross the semantic opacity (M. Eliade) of the archaeological object, but to structure our ignorance. We can thus see how our systems of representation draw on a range of possibilities in order to elaborate, around a mute archaeological reality, a well-defined and perfectly explicit symbolic system.
