L’Attentat et la censure : l’éthique au détriment de l’esthétique ?

Résumé

Despite the fact that a motion picture is the free expression of its maker, external forces could limit it through censorship, mainly for legal and ethical reasons. This is the case of The Attack, a film by Lebanese director Ziad Doueiri, shot for aesthetic reasons in Tel Aviv and the West Bank with an Israeli and Palestinian crew. The film was attacked due to the aesthetic choices of its director, which led to banning its screening in all of the Arab League countries. This episode, far from being an exception, makes us question the relation between the aesthetic of a film and the notions of ethics and engagement.
