Application de l'estimateur de Julier et Uhlmann à l'évaluation rapide du taux d’erreur bit dans un système de communication numérique

Abstract : To evaluate the Bit Error Rate (BER) in the context of Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) digital communications, we propose to use the second-order Unscented Transformation presented by Julier and Uhlmann. The approach consists in choosing a weighted set of samples such that they capture the first and second order moments of the distribution of the additive noise (mean vector and covariance matrix for MIMO system). The non-linear transformation described by the MIMO receiver is applied to the set of samples to obtain the statistics of the transformed samples. The estimation of the BER is then obtained by using a theoretical formula which links the BER and the calculated statistics (mean vector and covariance matrix of the noise after the receiver). Comparisons with Monte Carlo methods for the evaluation of the BER are performed. An Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation with Quadrature Amplitude Shift Keying (QASK) mapping is used for simulations of the MIMO system and the equalization is either made by a linear “Zero Forcing” (ZF) decoder or a non-linear decoder using the V-BLAST (Bell Laboratories Layered Space Time) algorithm.
