Abstract : A journey in the South and West of Wales during the summer of 2005 let the author to realize just how important the "community" is for the Welsh today. Une aventure galloise (Coop Breizh, 2006), the travel book the author wrote about the experience, is thus first and foremost an exploration of the word "community" itself (so difficult to translate into French) and its synonyms or near-synonyms ("communality", cymuned in Welsh) that he heard in so many mouths. What exactly do they mean by "community" ? What would be made of such unanimity ? What image(s) of society - and relationships within that society - does the concept imply ? Is there a consensus as to the definition of the word ? How specific is this Welsh conception of the community ?
