Reflections on localisms and supralocalism in English, Welsh and Breton
Réflexions sur les localismes et le supralocalisme en anglais, en gallois et en breton
Résumé
In this article I intend to present, in a more impressionistic than systematic way, some social aspects of the three linguistic communities with which I have the deepest emotional ties. Born a Welshman on my mother's side, and brought up mainly in the English-speaking environment of the Liverpool suburbs, my marriage has ensured a certain integration into the traditional Breton community of Poher. After recalling the present situation of these languages and the highlights of their past, I will review some particularly significant linguistic phenomena.
