For a collective linguistic atlas of the Breton language
Pour un atlas linguistique collectif de la langue bretonne
Résumé
In the early 1970s, at the request of Mr Falc’hun, I agreed to take charge of the creation of a New linguistic atlas of Lower Brittany (NALBB). At the time, I was far from imagining the heaviness of the task, which required a full-time job. Apart from the time spent in the field, the most tedious part is the phonetic transcription of the results. As the first series of surveys is nearing completion, the rest of the work remains to be done. However, it is impossible for me to carry out this task alone for the same reasons I have just mentioned. The other reason is demographic: time is running out for the vernacular languages, which are disappearing with their speakers. I therefore call on those interested to collaborate in the project.
