Conclusion : La France et la Grande-Bretagne au siècle des Lumières : quel modèle de sociabilité ?

Abstract : This volume is the fifth in the Transversales series published by a group of researchers of different nationalises, with the support of the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme en Bretagne (MSHB). on the topic of sociability in France and Britain during the Enlightenment The research focuses on the extent to which a new model of sociability emerged in these nations during this period, and the similarities and differences between the ways this model developed on each side of the Channel. The present volume demonstrates that the free space delineated by Georg Simmel is to be found in many instances in an aesthetic of the margin and in an implicit dialogue between the centre and the periphery.
