Mono- and Diplatinum Polyynediyl Complexes as Potential Push–Pull Chromophores: Synthesis, Characterization, TD-DFT Modeling, and Photophysical and NLO Properties

Abstract

The syntheses, photophysical and electrochemical characterizations of four new mono- and diplatinum polyynediyl complex chromophores end-capped with diphenylpyranylidene and pentafluorophenyl moieties are described. The nonlinear optical properties (NLO) of these compounds have been investigated using the electric-field-induced second harmonic generation (EFISH) technique. While the inductive electron-withdrawing pentafluorophenyl ligand, the length of the polyyne linkers, and the number of platinum centers do not seem to significantly affect the NLO responses of these complexes, their structural configuration (V-shape vs linear shape) plays a significant role.
La synthèse et les caractérisations photophysiques et électrochimiques de quatre chromophores mono - et diplatine polyynediyles porteurs de motifs diphenylpyranylidènes et pentafluorophényles sont décrits. Les propriétés d’optique non linéaire (NLO) de ces composés ont été étudiées par méthode EFISH. Les résultats montrent que la configuration structurale (forme en V vs. linéaire) du complexe affecte la réponse NLO, alors que la présence d’un ligand pentafluorométhyle, la longueur des espaceurs polyynes et le nombre de centres métalliques (Pt) semblent peu influents.
