Les déterminants sociaux et scolaires des carrières enseignantes dans l'enseignement public : le cas des professeurs des écoles stagiaires à l'IUFM de Bretagne

Abstract : This article presents research conducted to identify the impact of social and education factors on access to teaching careers shared by interns training to be primary school teacher, in their second year of initial training at IUFM (Institut Universitaire de Formation de Maîtres) in Brittany, and their colleagues from other regions. It also seeks to show some of the differences and particularities between the two groups determined by their social context. Based on surveys completed during semi-directive interviews, we will demonstrate the importance of considering at least three generations in order to be able to show their social behaviors as well as the link between future primary school teachers and their social structure. In Brittany, the pace of social advancement of interns training to be primary school teacher and the working population in the region seems to be about the same. The public institution appears to have ensured its legacy by attracting and massively recruiting state employees which are in large part from the public education sector. This legacy is reinforced by the low social interpenetration of the private and public education sectors and the professional divide between the two worlds.
