Abstract : This paper examines the strategies used by Franco's supporters and by the republicains during the Spanish Civil War : it is a "bicephalous" propaganda, having an internal purpose and an external one. Two main themes are dealt with this article : the contribution of a Basque newspaper to the strenghtening of the Basque nationalism, and the Biblical metaphor of the chosen people (the Civil War being a second phase) - after Romanticism - of myth construction specifying improving and in certain cases fixing the major representations that characterize the Basque nationalist imaginary, especially in France).
