index - ISblue - The interdisciplinary graduate school for the blue planet

Welcome to the ISBLUE HAL collection

The Earth, the “blue planet” as we like to call it. Its oceans cover more than two-thirds of its surface, regulate essential processes such as climate, and play a central role in the sustainable future of humankind. However, ocean ecosystems are fragile and evolving rapidly, mainly due to climate change, altered ocean-atmosphere-land interactions and overexploitation of resources. The Interdisciplinary graduate School for the Blue planet (ISblue) is a university research school created to meet the ever-growing challenges facing ocean and coastal ecosystems. It also aims to train the next generation of innovators and scientific leaders in oceanographic research, to meet the growing needs of the blue economy through high-level, research-led training.

ISblue brings together most of the marine science and technology staff in southern and western Brittany, from universities (UBO, UBS), national research organizations (CNRS, Ifremer, IRD), engineering schools (IMT-Atlantique, ENSTA Bretagne, ENIB) and the École navale. ISblue is made up of 15 research units and teams, with internationally recognized expertise in a wide range of disciplines (physical and spatial oceanography, geosciences, biogeochemistry, ecology, microbiology, data analysis, as well as geography, economics, law, engineering, etc.), all dedicated to ocean-related issues in all their aspects. ISblue takes interdisciplinarity to an unprecedented level, pushing back the frontiers of marine science and technology and ocean innovation.
