From 1690 to cca. 1715, several members of the court of James II, hosted by Louis XIV in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, participate to the feasts organised by the Duchess of Maine in Sceaux. If traditional interpretations want to see this attendance as a sign of the attraction exerted by the French style of life and the seek of a kind of Arcadia, arguments can be brought for more pragmatic reasons of their continued presence. Several letters and poems by Antoine Hamilton form the corpus analysed by the paper.
