Contributions à l’analyse de la transmission intergénérationnelle chez le consommateur

Abstract : This manuscript focuses on the consumption practices with an intergenerational transmission lens. The first part of the manuscript proposes the genesis of an integrative conceptual framework for the intergenerational transmission of consumer behaviour. This framework has emerged from an interpretation of Erikson’s theory of human personality development. It links the developmental concerns of the younger and older generations (learning, differentiating, taking care and preserving) around the notion of intergenerational capital. it also puts forward the concepts of sociocultural, economic, psychological and genetic capital, which serve to enrich and clarify the nature of intergenerational capital. The second and third parts deepen the understanding of intergenerational preservation behaviors - one of the forms of intergenerational transmission. They focus respectively on the preservation of intergenerational memory by the elderly and to the preservation of digital objects. These behaviors are based on psychosocial processes developed to cope with death and the importance of the stress generated by life events that the individual faces and adapts. This research helped to build a research program outlined in the fourth part of the manuscript.
